About Linac Systems

  • Linac Systems was founded in 1991 by Donald and Barbara Swenson, when it began its initial R&D efforts on novel linear accelerator designs and systems. Below is a timeline of our company history.

    • 1991: Linac Systems founded in Waxahachie, Texas.
    • 1995: Rf Focused Drift tube (RFD) linac development SBIR grant awarded.
    • 1996: RFD patent granted.
    • 1998: RFD beam achieved.
    • 2002: Linac Systems moves to Albuquerque, New Mexico.
    • 2004: Rf Focused Interdigital (RFI) linac patent granted.
    • 2006: RFI beam achieved.
    • 2007: First production linac shipped.
    • 2009: Operated first continuous wave (CW) ion-source.
    • 2010: Three machines in the field operating successfully.
    • 2011: 2.5 MeV, CW linac system nearing completion.

    Linac Systems' location in Albuquerque, New Mexico gives it access to personnel with extensive experience from Los Alamos and Sandia National Labs as well as the local support industries that have grown around the labs, such as precision machining and copper plating. These unique resources are particularly keen in this location.
